The thing that’s so exciting about the upcoming film Hidden Figures is not only that it highlights the real life accomplishments of Black women in a historical moment. But also because of the Black girls and women who will see themselves in the portrayals of these women and be subsequently inspired to reach for their own goals.
But the makers of the film, including producer Pharrell, Pepsico and 21st Century Fox, are taking it beyond just representation. They’re offering scholarships to young women who are pursuing passions and careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
