Darcell, From Homelessness to Music’s Rising Star

One of music’s brightest rising stars shares his positive message through his heartfelt melodies and clean lyrics that have helped the singer sell more than 100,000 copies of his debut CD.

Los Angeles, CA – Darcell is a singer, songwriter, musician and producer born in Dallas, TX. Darcell began singing and acting on stage in church and school when he was only five years old. As a child prodigy, Darcell’s grandmother taught him to play piano within a few hours.

He knew very early in his life that he wanted his music to affect the world. As a teenager, he wrote and produced his first songs in his childhood room.  In fact, Darcell’s debut album includes five of those songs.  As a gifted songwriter at such a very young age he continued to hone his talent as a young musician singing in clubs all over Dallas.

Darcell was given an airline ticket to go to Los Angeles on a whim from a friend where he found himself backstage at the American Music Awards.  After this experience, Darcell knew he was going to move to Los Angeles but he didn’t know how or when. As destiny would have it, Darcell entered a talent contest, won the contest and the $10,000 grand prize. He packed his car with his guitar and keyboard and moved to LA without knowing anyone. The move proved to be a good one and Darcell had some success singing and acting. However, hardship followed.

Darcell found himself living in his car for months at a time, taking showers at the gym and playing his piano in his storage unit. One day he woke up with two dollars, no gas and a slow leak in his tire.  In spite of the homelessness he continued to push for his dream.

“When I decided to move to LA it was my dream that was the catalyst for everything. As I continued to grow, learn and live somewhere along the way I discovered who I really am. That’s when my dream became a vision.  I realized that everything that I aspire to be and do is bigger than me…I discovered my purpose and that is to fill this entire planet with love through my music.”

Today Darcell is CEO of his own record label Crayton Entertainment where he has sold over 100,000 copies of his self-titled debut album Darcell. While he continues to promote this album, this prolific artist and songwriter remains creative and adds to his extensive music library when he is inspired.

Darcell has the unique ability to bridge old school, new school and the future of music into his sound.  When asked the secret of how he does this, Darcell responded:

“It’s not something I think about.  My only concern is being true to who I am. Authenticity is everything to me. I don’t know how to be anything else… I’ve never tried. True artist are unique in their own way and I consider myself a true artist.”
